Roads
Traveling any distance over land is an opportunity to present your players with unique and era-appropriate challenges that immerse them in the setting.
The road network is maintained by factions and their people in proportion to the routes use. This guide explains the road types included.
Footpath
Little more than a trail, maintained only by use. You may insist that mounted players dismount, travel single file, or even leave carts and mounts behind. Your discretion as GM is key. How difficult do you want their journey to be?
Bridleway
A lightly maintained route suitable for fast mounted travel. Players can walk two abreast, but there may be choke points where a cart cannot pass.
Byway
A well-maintained route, possibly paved; travel by carriage is practical with space for two abreast on horseback.
Highway
A major merchant route, meticulously maintained. A shod horse can gallop, and carriages can pass without trouble.
